We’re proud to announce that Hekima, in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), have recently chosen to grow their business with the Musoni cloud banking system. Musoni is now used by financial organisations across 18 different countries and is available in French, English, Spanish, Portuguese, Myanmar and Mandarin.
Hekima is the largest and most efficient MFI in Kivu, eastern DRC. Their core business is to provide group loans to women and men engaged in retail trade. They also finance MSMEs to ensure their sustainability in the region and are in the process of launching agri-financing loans. Hekima currently operate in the northern and southern regions of the DRC, with branches in Goma and Bukavu. Another branch is being planned shortly for the North-East of the DRC.
Hekima selected Musoni as their digitalisation partner in part due to the benefits of moving to a cloud based system. Switching to the cloud enables more of their operational tasks to be managed by the branches (as all data is available is immediately available), while giving real time visibility to the HO teams. Musoni’s digital field application (DFA) will enable Hekima to operate in areas where traditionally they could only service their customers with traditional pen and paper. Using the DFA will enable their field agents to spend more time training and educating their groups and less time on paperwork. With this initial approach, Hekima will then be able to leverage off Musoni’s platform to interface with Mobile Money in the DRC, something that would not have been possible to automate on their previous system.
Speaking about the selection process, Laurent Daddy Yamba Menayame, CEO of Hekima, said “We are very pleased to be have chosen Musoni as our core banking software provider. Moving to the cloud makes it easier for us to manage our operations but more importantly, we now have the underlying foundations for our digitalisation journey.”
Melissa Hoffman, Musoni’s Head of Africa, added “We are very excited to welcome Hekima onboard with Musoni. Our goal is improve the quality of financial services in underserved areas, and so it’s a privilege to support Hekima’s efforts to work with low income individuals in an already volatile area of the DRC. We are excited for the new opportunities Hekima will have with using the Musoni CBS.”
