ACEP Cameroon embraces digitalisation with Musoni

Clients want speed and transparency. Regulators demand accurate reports. Internal teams are expected to keep up with it all, often while juggling legacy systems that weren’t built for today’s pace.

That’s where ACEP Cameroon found themselves, not lacking commitment or capacity, but being slowed down by the tools they had to work with. While the loan applications were piling up, the field officers were drowning in forms, with portfolio data living in multiple, disconnected systems.

They weren’t alone. Across the ACEP network, similar challenges were emerging. But by 2023, things started to change. ACEP Burkina Faso and ACEP Madagascar were the first to leap, going live on Musoni in 2023. The impact was immediate: manual tasks disappeared, loan disbursements moved faster, and reporting finally caught up to real-time. Then came ACEP Cameroon.

ACEP Cameroon took note and decided it was time. Not just to digitise, but to transform how they work. Being live on Musoni means that ACEP Cameroon now operates on a modern platform designed for how MFIs work today. Built specifically for financial institutions working with groups and individuals in the field, Musoni cuts through the noise and gets to what matters.

Here’s what’s changed for them:

  • Regulatory compliance made seamless: Understanding the critical importance of regulatory adherence in Cameroon’s financial sector, Musoni worked hand-in-hand with the ACEP Cameroon team to prepare and submit all necessary documentation to local regulators. This collaborative approach ensured full compliance and regulatory approval, giving ACEP Cameroon the confidence to operate within the established legal framework while leveraging modern digital tools.
  • Loan origination is fully digital, saying goodbye to duplication and delays
  • Field officers work with a digital field application that works in both offline and online modes, which is available on all Android devices and automatically syncs to the system once connectivity is restored.
  • With Musoni’s Data Export Tool, ACEP Cameroon can now easily customise and export reports. What used to be a manual, time-consuming process is now quick, accurate, and effortless.
  • Musoni’s Accounting Export allows MFIs like ACEP to automatically export daily general ledger movements and closing balances per branch in a format ready for import into third-party accounting systems. The export files are generated overnight and securely stored in Musoni’s infrastructure, streamlining reconciliation and ensuring accurate, up-to-date financial records.
  • While some financial institutions use Musoni’s standard templates, ACEP has fully leveraged the platform’s flexibility by customising documents that fit their specific needs. Musoni’s document template builder uses tags to personalise their contracts, thereby generating tailored documents, e.g. loan contracts, loan scheduling documents, receipts, etc., saving time and automatically generating all core client documents straight from the system.

“Partnering with Musoni has been a game-changer for ACEP Cameroon. The platform’s flexibility, cloud-based reliability, and real-time dashboards have transformed how we operate. From digital loan origination to automated accounting exports, Musoni enables us to scale efficiently while improving transparency and client service.” CEO, ACEP Cameroon

We built Musoni because we’ve been there on the ground, in the back office, in the field, and we believe this is the reason the ACEP Group didn’t just find a vendor. They found a partner with people who understand microfinance from the inside out.

This successful digital transformation was made possible through the dedicated support of IT4Life, our valued regional partner in West and Central Africa. IT4Life’s extensive knowledge of local market dynamics, regulatory landscapes, and operational challenges has been crucial in ensuring ACEP Cameroon’s seamless transition to the Musoni platform. Their technical expertise continues to provide the foundation for ongoing success across the ACEP network.

With three ACEP institutions now live on Musoni, Burkina Faso, Madagascar, and Cameroon, the ACEP Group is proving what’s possible when digital transformation is done right, thoughtfully, progressively, and with the people it’s meant to serve at the centre. And Musoni is proud to be the system powering that progress.

If your systems are slowing you down, your field teams are stretched thin, and your clients are waiting longer than they should, you don’t need more patience. You need a better system. Let’s talk
